Everyone knows that Indians love to shop. But as people have little time, they are increasingly turning to their mobile phones to help them shop online.
Opera Software recently released its State of the Mobile Web (SMW) report, where it tracked mobile browsing trends on the basis of Opera Mini (its mobile browser) usage. And the company has reported that an increasing number of mobile phone users are accessing ecommerce sites on their devices. This aside, the are also accessing news sites – local and international – as well as travel destinations, while on the move.
An analysis of top 200 domains by Opera Software’s study shows that news websites made up 30% of the total visits, while e-commerce came to 14%. This is far more than accessing social networking sites, which stood at 9%, and travel at 7%.
And the instances of accessing e-commerce sites are on the rise, with the top three e-commerce sites being Quikr, Amazon and Flipkart.
Opera reported that e-commerce has grown to become the second largest website category in its list of top Indian domains. Opera has tagged both e-commerce portals as those where people can actual shop for products and portals where people can compare price under e-commerce category.
The top 10 mobile phone devices that users searched for were:
Nokia X2-01
So whoever said that Nokia’s time is up has been proven wrong!
The top 15 e-commerce sites in India were:
quikr.com
amazon.com / amazon.co.uk
flipkart.com
alibaba.com
snapdeal.com

naaptol.com
indiamart.com
infibeam.com
ebay.com / ebay.in
jabong.com

Now that’s some serious food for thought!
